Project Overview and Insights

Background

Olive’s Bloombox is an independent floral studio based in Ferndale, Michigan, known for its premium floral arrangements tailored for weddings, events, and everyday gifting. In addition to floral design, Olive’s Bloombox offers immersive hands-on workshops and a mobile flower cart experience for private parties and community events.

Despite their creative vision and local reputation, their previous website, built on WordPress with WooCommerce, struggled to meet the demands of a modern, fast-moving floral business. The site’s rigid theme structure and reliance on bulky plugins made it difficult for the team to customize layouts, launch new promotions, or update content without technical help. Performance issues were common, especially on mobile devices. Combined with a clunky multi-step checkout, these limitations resulted in high bounce rates and missed revenue opportunities.

Project Goals

To support Olive’s Bloombox as they expanded their reach and offerings, we set clear goals for this rebuild:

  • Refresh and modernize the website’s look and feel to reflect the premium, design-forward identity of the brand.
  • Empower the marketing team with flexible, user-friendly tools to launch new product collections, seasonal promotions, and workshops without developer involvement.
  • Replace WooCommerce with a more robust, scalable e-commerce backend that could easily handle local delivery, subscriptions, and future growth.
  • Improve overall site speed, technical SEO, and Core Web Vitals to strengthen organic search visibility and ensure a seamless experience on any device.
  • Streamline the entire shopping and booking flow to reduce checkout friction and boost online conversion rates.

The Solution

To achieve these goals, we transitioned Olive’s Bloombox to a modern headless architecture that combines a custom-designed Webflow frontend with the power and reliability of Shopify for e-commerce operations.

Frontend: We designed and built the entire user-facing site in Webflow, giving us pixel-perfect control over layouts, typography, photography, and interactive elements. This approach eliminated the design constraints and plugin conflicts that had slowed down the old WordPress site.

Backend: Shopify now manages the product catalog, secure checkout, order fulfillment, subscriptions, and local delivery logistics. This decoupled architecture means the client benefits from Shopify’s robust commerce capabilities while maintaining total freedom over the visual design and content structure in Webflow.

Key Features and Improvements

1. Fully Custom, Brand-Centric Design

The new website showcases Olive’s Bloombox as an elevated, modern floral studio. The design combines generous white space, refined typography, and high-quality photography to create an elegant, welcoming atmosphere online. We built custom CMS collections in Webflow for products, seasonal campaigns, workshops, testimonials, and editorial content. This modular approach ensures that every landing page can be uniquely designed, updated frequently, and tailored to match each new product line or event.

2. Headless Shopify Integration

Instead of relying on WordPress plugins, all e-commerce operations now run through Shopify. This setup enables dynamic product management, a simplified checkout process, and custom features like local delivery date selectors, order note fields, and add-ons such as vase upgrades or recurring subscriptions. Customers enjoy a seamless experience that feels fully branded, while Shopify handles the transactional backend securely and efficiently.

3. Improved User Experience and Higher Conversion Rates

We restructured the site’s navigation and calls-to-action to make it easy for customers to explore floral collections, reserve workshop spots, or inquire about wedding and event services. The entire checkout flow was streamlined to reduce friction and encourage completion, especially on mobile devices where most local customers browse. By prioritizing a clear path to purchase and adding trust signals like testimonials, we created an experience that converts more visitors into paying customers.

4. Faster Performance and Stronger SEO

By moving away from WordPress’s plugin-heavy architecture, the new site loads quickly and runs on Webflow’s global content delivery network (CDN). We optimized all imagery for modern formats, implemented semantic HTML for better search indexing, and improved Core Web Vitals scores — all contributing to stronger local search visibility and a lower bounce rate.

5. Flexible Content Management

With the new Webflow CMS, the Olive’s Bloombox team can easily create new product launches, seasonal promotions, and landing pages for upcoming workshops or special events — all without relying on developers. This agility helps the business stay fresh and relevant year-round, keeping loyal customers engaged and attracting new audiences through timely, locally-focused content.
